Demo Session: Scaling up MATLAB to the GWDG Scientific Compute Cluster

Scientific ComputingEmployeesStudents Online

Event content

This session presented by the GWDG and MathWorks focusses on walking users through accessing the GWDG Scientific Compute Cluster (GWDG SCC), setting up a cluster profile, and submitting sample jobs. MATLAB is launched on the local workstation and parallel jobs are submitted to the cluster interactively, where users are shown how to set job submission arguments before running both single node and multi node jobs. We will demonstrate how to submit various CPU-only jobs before discussion moves to using GPUs. Additionally, users will learn how to debug and troubleshoot if any errors appear.

Users can – but are not expected to – follow along if they have access to the GWDG SCC and a MATLAB license.

Office Hour: MATLAB Parallel Computing
Join MathWorks and GWDG for an open Q&A session on Friday, November 21, from 14:00-15:00 (Online). No registration required, the meeting link will be made available to participants of the workshop series.

About the Presenter
This live webinar is presented by Raymond Norris. Raymond Norris has worked at MathWorks for over 25 years as a Quality Engineer, a Technical Consultant, and now, most recently, as an Application Engineer. He has written training courses and workshops at MathWorks on MATLAB Compiler, MEX, and Parallel Computing. Raymond currently leads a team of engineers to integrate MathWorks parallel tools with end-users' HPC cluster and cloud environments.

Raymond holds a B.S. in computer science and applied mathematics from the University of Massachusetts Boston and an M.S. in software engineering from Brandeis University.

Learning goal

After attending this webinar participants will be able to configure MATLAB to submit jobs to the GWDG SCC using the MATLAB job submission workflow. They will understand job optimization, troubleshooting and tuning and how to use GPUs with MATLAB.
